Are Oil Companies Bringing Down Prices To Help John McCain And The GOP

Gas prices in the US have dropped significantly recently with the price for regular down from $4.05 per gallon on July 14 to $3.82 on August 4. That is a drop of 23 cents in just three weeks. In 2006, we saw a similar trend with the price of a gallon of regular going from $3.00 a gallon on August 7 down to $2.20 a gallon by the November mid-term elections in 2006.

Another interesting fact is that the price of a gallon of regular has not gone back down since the 2006 election. So, anyone who says that this is just a trend is full of it. This "trend" seems to follow election cycles more than anything else. Last year, the price of regular actually rose from July to November and continued to stay at around $3 a gallon for the entire winter. And in 2005, the price of regular actually rose sharply from the summer into the winter.

So, basically the price of a gallon of gas rises in non-election years and decreases in election years just prior to the election. It seems to me that this is not a coincidence and if the price for a gallon of gas is around $3 a gallon by the election then we all know why.
